The Equal and Opposite Effect of Sadness
I don’t know about you, but the holiday time of year never fails to remind me how different I am from THEM. Ya know, the THEMs on commercials that show some perfectly preened family whose worst fear is running out of Folgers coffee when their son comes home from his prestigious college in a new sweater and a blonde head full of nothing.
It’s enough to make YOU feel like you could never be one of THEM. Never be normal like one of the THEM…happy just like one of THEM… And really, they’re probably right.
The deep sadness YOU feel creates an equal and opposite potential to feel incredible joy in ways that are yet to be seen to THEM. As Madeleine L’Engle said “Maybe you have to know the darkness before you can appreciate the light.”
So take that, you Folgers drinking bunch of normals.
